Dr. Andrew J. Gregg (Dr. A.J.) Joins the Eco-Health Community

We are very happy to welcome Dr. Andrew J. Gregg (Dr. A.J.) to the Ecopolitan Eco-Health Community! Dr. A.J.'s office is part of the Eco-Health Center at the Ecopolitan building, where he will be providing functional medicine consultations (over the phone or in-office) and laboratory work, musculoskeletal therapy (rehabilitation, manual therapy, and low level laser therapy for reducing pain and inflammation), and comprehensive nutritional and biomechanical assessments for holistic & preventative health. Below, Dr. A.J. introduces himself and his goals for the Ecopolitan community.

Dear Ecopolitan Eco-Health Community,

The first time I stepped into the Ecopolitan building I must admit I was a bit resistant. My mother had brought me as a part of her efforts for me to live healthier. From an early age I can remember having to 'finish my vegetables,' only getting soda pop at friend’s houses, and having to eat carob instead of chocolate. Having grown up on a farm in rural Iowa, a vastly different world to say the least, I assumed this was just one more of her wacky experiments. I do not remember the experience much probably because I was a different person then. Little did I know that eventually Ecopolitan's mission would be so in line with my own. A short six years later, I am excited to join the Ecopolitan community.

One would think that with a mother who was so in to health and providing me with the right environment to be healthy that I would be. I was anything but. I resisted, ate junk, didn't move as much as I should, and as a result got fat and sick. At my worst, about four years ago, I topped in at 220 pounds and had health problems. One day it struck me  - “You are going to be a health-care provider and you are fat and sick,” and I knew I had to make a change.  So I slowly started listening to my mother, reading some of her esoteric books, and made changes in my diet and lifestyle. Changes happened fast and were quite dramatic. After seeing results in my own life I knew I was on to something and continued reading and eventually came upon mountains of research in nutrition on how to practice 'restorative' medicine and give people their health back. Dr. T's lectures and talks influenced me greatly during my time at chiropractic school and he served as an excellent resource and mentor for additional reading.

So here I am, full circle, walking into the Ecopolitan building feeling part of a mission that is so fulfilling to be a part of and share. To know that I can give back with the same integrity, passion, and help grow this community brings me great joy. Hello and welcome, I am very pleased and looking forward to being a part of the Ecopolitan.

Sincerely,
Dr. A.J.

Sunday Eco-Movie Night Is Back

We are bringing our Sunday Movie Night back! On the last Sunday evening of every month, we will screen a FREE movie, covering fiction, non-fiction, and documentaries, with intriguing topics that are crucial for our awareness of sustainability and health principles. We will briefly discuss each movie's pros and cons after viewing it, in a non-formal, impromptu manner. You may order food and drinks from the Ecopolitan restaurant and enjoy them while watching the featured film if you wish. We hope that this activity will be enriching and rewarding to everyone who attends, strengthening our growing community and providing social opportunities! Check out Ecopolitan’s online calendar for more details.

Eco-Trek and Nepali Community Tour - Spring 2012

There are only a few days left to secure your spot in an amazing adventure of a lifetime that includes an off-the-beaten-path trek of the magnificent Himalayas, an authentic Nepali community tour, a jungle safari in Chitwan National Park, a World Heritage Site tour, and much more! Guided by Dr. T, this group adventure also supports sustainable rural development and education for poor Nepali children and orphans, and launches the humanitarian project “Touching The Untouchables,” offering massage, therapeutic touch, and general bodywork to members of the lowest classes of the ancient Hindi caste system (called “Untouchables” by the higher castes) in an effort to help society abolish this racially-biased system.

Trek dates are March 16-31, 2012.

For more information, visit Ecopolitan’s website or the Dr. T Eco-Treks for Nepali Children Facebook page.  While there, make sure to read Or Biba’s touching and inspiring accountof her trip with Dr. T in the fall of 2011. To register call: 612-870-2974 or e-mail:tamar@ecopolitan.com
