Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

Definition
An acute infection caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus and involving the dorsal root ganglia; causes eruptions and neuralgia on the skin corresponding to the distribution of the affected root ganglia; commonly known as "shingles."
